How to get to Amalfi Coast from Rome? is that Pompeii on the way?
How to get to Amalfi Coast from Rome?
These are very common requests we receive every day from our clients so I wanted to describe all Pros & Cons.
How far is Rome to Amalfi coast? How long is the drive?
First of all, you have to know that Amalfi Coast is 350kilometers far from Rome city center and you need approximately 4hours of driving and Pompeii Ruins is along the way to the destination. This is a good solution ONLY if you want to leave Rome and get to Positano, or Amalfi, or Sorrento (maybe you can also think about stopping in Pompeii for a visit before to get to your destination) but is NOT the best solution if you want to have an 8hours day tour of the Amalfi coast or Pompeii Ruins and get back to Rome by car again: it needs at least 15/16 hours in total to do all of that. It is impossible for any human being to drive so much time, it is too tiring and dangerous!
What is the fastest way to get to Amalfi Coast or Pompeii from Rome?
Here you find the very best way to reach Amalfi Coast from Rome: train and car combo!
I know it sounds difficult but it is not, actually, it is very relaxing too. Let me explain.
All major cities in Italy are connected by a very fast train system which maybe you know it as like “bullet train” but we call it FrecciaRossa Train that runs up to 300km/h, which is 187miler per hour!!! That’s fast, isn’t it?!
So you can buy FrecciaRossa tickets from Rome Termini Train Station to reach Naples Central Train Station is only 1 hour in a nice and smooth train ride! I know now you are wondering: where to buy these tickets, right? in Italy there are only 2 bullet-train companies that offer these fast rides and you can buy their tickets directly on their websites: Trenitalia FrecciaRossa and Italo . (They have both similar schedules)
Now that you are in Naples you are asking yourself, how to get to the Amalfi coast, and here you have two options: car rental to drive on your own or private transfer or tour with the driver.
What are the pros and cons of car rental or a private transfer/tour?
Well, if you are thinking to rent a car and driving on your own in Naples, “I really don’t suggest you that!”, because for not-Neapolitan people is very difficult to move around the insane traffic jam of the town with scooters everywhere like mosquitos, but driving in the narrow streets of Amalfi coast is a very nightmare because the roads are very tight, so narrow that most of the cars in this area have scratches all over both sides of cars due to the close driving: you really have a high risk to pay for the damage to your rented car, also because most of the hotels and B&B have no parking spots and you will desperately park your cars besides the roads like everyone does.
Also when you are in Positano or Amalfi you want to enjoy places and you can move so easily and quickly by ferries around the coastline towns, so if you think about it, you don’t need to stress yourself to find a parking spot when you don’t need it to move around. I don’t want to scare your spirit of adventure but it is the truth!
If you are thinking “what madness!”, it means that you can agree with me that it is better to do not mess up with your vacation and hire a private driver for Tours or Transfers in Positano, or Ravello, or Sorrento. For us, local people driving every day here it is not a problem anymore because we are used to this traffic and we know a trick or two to skip it or avoid it. Trust in our professional drivers and let us drive for you while you enjoy places and experiences!
Relax and enjoy the ride while we take care of you and your time, hassle-free!
